mmmm

very calm and atmospheric
Sounds great in the background while I'm doing homework, it makes math seem much more epic than it actually is
I really like around 6:55 when that bassy instrument comes in, really gives the song a powerful dark feel
Sounds fantastic all around :D

Rig responds:

Why thank you. It's all just 3xOsc with some reverb and stuff, lol
Let me know how your math homework goes!

haha

haha this piece is awesome! I really like how its put together, sounds really authentic classical, especially the beginning. I actually laughed while listening to it; it has that medieval faire kind of feel, but at the same time its really upbeat and happy, to a point where can help laughing at the cheesiness of it. I know way too little about this genre to criticize anything, but the song sounds fantastic, so well done :D
5/5

Musical-Pants responds:

Thanks, I think it sounds medeval as well.
I appreciate the review!

wow

This is really a fantastic piece of music. It really creates some vivid imagery for me, its just such a powerful piece. Very very nice job, I'm blown away by this

Petwoip responds:

I'm happy to hear that!

Awesome

this is an incredible song :D

Good: The vocal work in this is absolutely fantastic. I don't know how much of the vocals is you, but either way it sounds incredible, its incredibly high quality and the way the vocals are incorporated into the song is amazing. I also really enjoy the strings, especially at the beginning, they really give the song that mellow hiphop feel. Speaking of which, I would say this should be put in the hiphop genre; feels much more like a hiphop song because of how much it is centered around the vocals. In general, the background sounds and effects sound great, they really give the song a really full feeling that sounds great to listen to.

Bad: The only criticism I have is that at the beginning the drums sound more like a trance/techno drum beat than a hip hop beat, but later on the drums become a little more hiphoppish so thats not really a big concern.

Overall, this is pretty much flawless. Its professional in every way, and I could easily imagine this being played on the radio or in clubs. Really fantastic job, this is one of the better songs I've heard on NG

p4c responds:

wwell its a remix, so the vocals were definately not me haha. its from I'll be lovin you long time, by mariah carey. i just changed the speed, rearranged some vocals, enhanced them with effects, and spliced some parts. all the background, eq-ing, etc., though, is me.

im glad you liked it! while i cant accept credit for the vocals, i can accept applaud for the work :) i think i'll change it to hip hop too--while i personally think this is house, i see where ur coming from--its significantly slower than house generally is, and plays up the funk/soul part of the genre. so it sounds very much like that. maybe ill put this in genre mix contest...?

hehe

I actually enjoying this quite a bit. Its clear that this is just something thrown together, as its really as simple as you can get in terms of HHC techno, but I still enjoyed it quite a bit. The main synth is really fun to listen to, and overall the whole song is quite catchy and.... bouncy. Anyways, nice job, I commend you for making such a catchy song in such a short period of time

also, the glitch is f'ing awesome :D

WritersBlock responds:

Haha, yeah. When Rucklo said 'Go Make Music!', I said 'okay'. Out of everything in the battle, I like mine the least, but I did have fun making it. I was surprised to see SineRider gave me a vote, but the reason behind it was the composition, which is really great for my confidence, because I'm trying to enter a serious classical competition, and it's only a couple of weeks from the deadline, so now I feel like I can get the song done, and get it done pretty well.
But, yeah, my main focus here was to have fun. School is closed for the weekend, go make the most of it! I'm glad that fun spilled over.

That glitch. I got the VST for it not too long ago when EchozAurora linked to it, and I thought, awesome, I could use this all the time. I used it in my last song with more deliberation, although it turned out a similar way, it's just random junk.

Thanks man! Your track was sweet as, I should go vote now and return the favour here. ;D

nice

This is a really cool and unique piece, I enjoyed it. I think the strong points of the song is both the piano and the well done ambience; the piano with delay sounds REALLY good, and its coupled really well by all the sounds you include in the background (such as the bells). The ambience is also very well made and mastered, its a good saw-ish background that adds to the bigger parts but doesn't detract much either.

The parts I didn't like were the were the lead synth and the drums. For whatever reason, I just didn't find the lead synth that appealing; later on in the song, when its matched with the piano it sounds much better, but earlier on in the song when it stands by itself I just didn't find that power and sound I was kinda hoping for. This could be personal preferance, but I think you could probably add to it a bit. Other thing would be the kick. I don't think it was quite as powerful or as effective as it could have been, but again, could simply be my preference, and after all this isn't really a dance song. I would say just plug the kick into fruity parametric eq2 and play around with things until you get a sound you like.

Overall, this sounds really neat, its incredibly unique and has a great sound.
you got a 5 from me :D

SinJim responds:

Thanks for the review Gloudas. I'll fiddle around with the kick a bit. Sometimes I'm into the punchy in-your-face kicks but sometimes I prefer these. I guess it sort of depends on the mood I'm in when I choose it. Also, I'll rethink the lead a bit. I like how it sounds when I opened up the filter towards the middle when it's coupled with the piano but I might be able to change the synth a bit. Like I said with the kick, I'll fiddle around with it.

I'm glad you liked (most of) this; hopefully I'll be coming up with more like this but we'll see. Right now I'm working on an orchestral piece for the Trembling Madness MAC. Thanks again for the comments!

well done!

Sorry for taking so long to review, I haven't been getting in much NG time recently due to school (although I gave the song a 5 during the first week it came out). Anyhoo, here's my attempt at a formal review

the good: For starters, this song is fantastic in that I think it shows real development on your part as a music composer. I've noticed that with your songs you use alot of the same techniques and instruments, and this is the first song i've heard that really and truly breaks away from your style and creates something totally new. So just for that, great job :D On top of that, this sounds bloody fantastic. I'm listening to it with a pair of 130 dollar headphones and it sounds AWESOME. The most noticeable are the pads, which sound beautiful, and what you did with cutoff frequencies ensures that they sound great but are changing at the same time. The sidechaining is also well done, it works well in the background during the more intense parts and adds a flavorful element. The intro is incredibly well done, its one huge swell that pulls you into the song and then kinda brings you back down, really a creative way to start it off. The drums are also well made, and the cymbals or tambourine or whatever you throw in there adds another cool element to the song. What really stands out in the song is the amount of variety and feeling in each part; everything transitions beautifully and stays interesting and has a really "full" sound, its really just incredible to listen to. This is by far your best work, and I'm blown away by it.

The bad: nothing. I tried to listen to this specifically for errors and couldn't find any.

Overall, this is fantastic, like you said with my last song, you have completely and utterly outdone yourself. You've got a (second) 5, a dl, and a fav from me.
Again, sorry for taking so long to review, and try to give my new song (rucklo rave) a listen if you get a chance :D

Oh and keep PM'ing me when you release new stuff, I'd love to hear it all

Nintechno responds:

Whoo! Thanks for the AWESOME review dude! I really REALLY apprecieate it! That is acually the most helpful review I've ever recieved lol ^^

Ill be sure to check out yer song!

YES!!

One of my favorite NG songs. I remember when it was on the weekly 5, and I've been listening to it constantly since then. Love the sounds of the song, the synths you use sound incredible, and its great how you changed the futurama melody but still kept the core of the melody there. Fantastic job on this one, I'll continue to listen to it constantly, great to see it get back up to a spot of recognition

Peptotrippin responds:

Aw! <3!

great

Very nice job here. Overall, the song is very well made, its interesting to listen to, there's variety from part to part, and the instruments you picked (both synths and percussion) sound fantastic. My only criticism is that it feels a bit repetitive, as the parts often just consist of drums and bass. I think you could help to make the song more interesting as a whole by adding more ambience, for example that pad that swells during the intro would add some cool background noise to the song and give it some more feeling. I would also consider just adding more to each part, as I think almost every part in the song could use more instruments in general just to spice things up. There isn't one thing in particular that should be added, but you should play around with effects and synths until you find something that you think would work well in the background. Often what I find is that when I'm attempting to create something to go in the background it becomes something that I use as a main part of the song, so experimentation in adding more parts often pays off. I would also suggest variety in the drum parts themselves, even it that just means adding an extra kick somewhere, as just a little bit of variety with percussion in a bland area can really change the feel of a song. You had some of this going on, but generally only during transitions, and changing up the drum beats during the longer drum/bass sections (like the beginning) would really help to spice it up. Like I said, its a very well made song, but I think there are a lot of ways to build to the song.
Nice job, 5/5 from me

Uluse responds:

yeah i guess i could have put some more effects in. But about the pad in the intro...it's already in, hehe, but it's barely hearable even though it has the same volume level :S

Thanks for the tips and review!

kickass

Another awesome one from you. I just read Nav's review, and his criticism is exactly why I like this song and your other so much; I despise repetition and really slow buildups, and these songs are jampacked with sounds and synths that are constantly changing and revolving around the bassline, keeping it really exciting to listen to. I love that constantly shifting style, its incredibly addictive to listen to, and you nailed it here. Everything sounds fantastic, the techno aspects meld together well with the funk, and you picked a good variety of instruments and synths to portray both halves. Really, this style of music is what I hope to be able to make one day.

Every second of this song is gold, its just so incredibly interesting to listen to. Keep making stuff and telling me about it, I'll never get tired of it.
5/5 and 10/10
Hope ya make best of the week, its definately deserving of a spot there

Musical-Pants responds:

Yes, it's not the best dance tune because it's not six minutes long, with the main chorus repeated every five seconds. But if people find my stuff fun to listen to, I've achieved my goal.
I originally had the beat coming in much slower, but then it started to sound like EVERY other techno/rave song ever made, and that wasn't going to work for me. So I threw a fast and funky drum intro in there, and everything kinda took off.
Thanks a heap for the glowing review, this is why I make music.

P.S. I hope i make best of the week too ;)
