Pretty badass

Cool stuff, this was a lot of fun to listen to. The intense bass on each quarter note really creates an intense drive that makes this such a pleasure to listen to, and I really enjoy the progression at the beginning. It starts in a way that sorta makes you say, "What the fuck is this?". But then as more is added, the rhythm becomes more and more hypnotic, and you get sucked into the beat with each component added. Like I said, a really enjoyable listen.

The main critique I have is a general lack of variety. I understand you're going for a hard DnB style song, but I don't think that really excuses the repetitiveness of the song as a whole. Obviously this is a matter of personal taste, but to me, I feel like the song would be greatly improved with a little more variation from the beat you having driving throughout. My favorite section comes at 2:36, I love that breakdown. More parts like from 2:36 on, where things are dropping out and changing, would greatly improve the song in my opinion.

Overall, great job. 5/5 and 8/10

DJ-Rube responds:

Thanks man. You pretty much nailed what I was going for in your review. =)
And yeah I do plan on adding a bit more variety in the second half of the song when I finish it, more DnB stuff.

Pretty cool

Overall, I really enjoyed this. This sounds and melodies all intertwine very well, and it's got a very cool feel overall. In terms of the song itself, its professional quality, very well made. The main qualm I have with the song however, is the vocals. The quality of singing just isn't there for me; it sounds like someone who really doesn't know how to sing, trying to sing, and it makes it hard for me to appreciate the high quality of everything else. This song would be fantastic if the vocals sounded better, and while I realize you're going for a stylized sort of singing, it just doesn't work for me. Like I said though, I think the rest of the song is top notch, just as long as the vocals sound amateur-ish, it brings the rest of the song down.

Haxxy responds:

The vocals are what most people complain about. The main reason they sound so amateur is because I'm currently forced to use a desktop mic to record. As a result, the voice is simply not pleasing to the ears, and I've had to fight with ridiculous distortion throughout the recording. Once I get a good quality microphone, there will be a huge difference. (Trust me, it isn't a result of poor singing skill.)

cool

This was pretty cool, been listening to it for about 30 minutes now in the background. It's got a great drive to it and I like the use of high pass and whatnot to give it some nice variety. Good stuff, I enjoyed it.
I can't think of anything specifically I'd improve, so I guess just keep making stuff

neat!

Cool stuff, I really enjoyed this. A very unique sound, and I'm always a fan of ambiance mixed with whacky percussion. The variety is quite commendable, and it never gets boring to listen to. Nice job with this one, a very entertaining piece

thanks man

damn dude

this is a pretty damn raging beat. Love the industrial feel, and nice bassy kicks. Really enjoyed this

Thanks man, keep an eye out for my new stuff, I've got an entire album I'm gonna dump sometime this year.

Neat!

This is a really cool song! I greatly enjoyed the melodies and all the different parts you got going on in there! However, I feel that the use of one instrument really makes the song lack as a whole. If you had a bit more variety with your instruments I think this song could be a whole lot more than just a cute loop. Keep it up!

pickyerpoison responds:

Thanks for the input! There are actually two instruments, although the second (a wooden drum) is mostly in the background and can be hard to notice. It starts at approximately 00:30.

Nice!

Wow, this is a really cool song to listen to. I would definately classify it as ambient, simply because I was so immediately relaxed and listened to it as background music for a while.
I really like the variety in the song, you've got alot of great sounds all contributing to the thing as a whole; the percussion particular gives it a really unique, almost latin flavor that gives it a lot of personality as a whole.
The guitar works very very well with the rest of music, it doesn't overpower or steal the show, but simply adds that character. The bass is great as well :D

I really enjoyed this all around, I'm always a fan of ambient and so this immediately got my attention. Thanks for the PM, this was a lot of fun to listen to!

Slashnsmash responds:

Thanks for checking out the song dude, glad you like it.

Wow...

wow. this is just so nuts. I haven't really played DK2 since I was kid. I must have been 8 or younger (I'm 18 now). I just recently got a SNES emulator and immediately began playing this game. Yesterday I got to this level. I was about to quit, but decided I'd play for one more level. When I started the level, I just sat back, and listened to the music, just being totally and completely relaxed by it. And now, I happen to find this on the front page. The day after I get to this level after having not played the game for 10 years. This is so strange and random and awesome that its hard to fathom.

As for the song itself, it's fantastic. As soon as it began I was transported into the same relaxed, chilled phase I was in when I heard it yesterday. I'm faving this one, it's just fantastic. Thanks for such a weirdly cool experience.

thx for the review, glad you enjoyed it! ^_^v

Hello there pumpkin tits.

Neato, just saw this up.

Well, the beginning is just sexy. Its got good pacing and its mastered very very well, so tip of the hat to you thur. However, the song kinda loses steam from there. The problem with starting it off so intense is that you gotta keep up that energy, and it seems like it loses it's drive shortly after that intro. The entire middle section, while it sounds great, just doesn't fit in with the first bit, as its got a completely different feel and pace to it. Almost sounds like you should have had :47 on to the end be a different song entirely, as the intro juxtaposes it so much.

It's weird, because overall the song sounds fantastic. Like really really good. Everything sounds clean and smooth and well mastered, but as a listener, I'm just expecting more than what :47 on delivers.

Still overall I really enjoyed this, the atmosphere is great, but I thought I'd throw in my beef with it. Damn good song

5/5, 9/10, and DL'ed.

Jebbal responds:

I'm liking these good reviews! Ya know, rather than the generic "WOW AMAZING COOL 5 AND 10 FOR YOU SIR". An honest 9 means more to me than an impulsive 10 from some people!

I spent loads of time trying to make this sound clear and masterful, so thanks for making a deal about that. :) Its not perfect, but its definitely the best job I've done! - When I first made the transition out of :47 I thought it sounded really awkward and just saved/closed the project expecting to go back to it later, wipe it clean and try something else. After listening to it several times, though, it started to sound okay. I remember SkyMarshall saying something like "When you spend a lot of time on a song, you start becoming deaf to what sounds good". I guess that's what happened. :P I still think it sounds alright, but its definitely not what you expect to hear on your first listen which will kinda throw you off. If you were hoping for the rest of the song to maintain that energy in the beginning, I can see why its somewhat disappointing.

Despite all that, I'm still proud of Solara! And I know you didn't mean for your review to seem completely negative, just focusing on the flaws. Which is good! Makes a useful review! Thanks for writing it!

You sexy man you!

Submit you're own stuff.

The reason that people are voting low on your submissions is because you are not actually creating anything. Speeding up an mp3 takes no work and skill, and doesn't sound good. The idea of newgrounds audio portal is that you create music and submit it as your own, not edit existing songs in such a thoroughly simple way.

Please, if you're going to submit songs here, create them yourself.

Treviabot92-Virstein responds:

Never really needed a response to prove the stupidity of people who deliberately vote low, even if my submissions are shit.
